5 Ways To Make a Detox Safe & Fun

5 Ways To Make a Detox Safe & Fun

The fun detox?

Detoxing doesn’t have to be boring or make you miserable!

I started trying various different detox & cleanse programs a few years ago, and have tried so many different ones that I can hardly count them all. Some of them were very time consuming, some of them were very expensive and others were just gross (I once followed a detox where I had to eat plain brown rice with raw garlic and raw onion for every meal – I hated it and I smelled so bad).

But I have learned over the years (because I’ve tried so many detox methods) that cleansing can be fun, simple & easy while still being effective.

Here are 5 ways to make a detox safe + fun

1. Focus on eating whole, healthy foods instead of following a dangerous cleanse.

Instead of going crazy juicing all of your food or following a dangerous cleanse program that limits the intake of too many foods, simply eat whole & healthy plant-based foods. To detox, the body actually needs lots of nutrients – so limiting food intake, fasting or starving yourself could actually cause more harm than good

2. Enjoy normal, healthy food.

Instead of stressing about making 12 servings of fresh juice to drink every day or eating plain brown rice with raw garlic & onion at every meal (like I said – it was terrible), eat normal food. When you eat “normal” food that nourishes your body, you will actually enjoy doing a cleanse.

3. Eat plant based foods

To cleanse the body it is important to avoid eating animal foods for a few days. Although animal foods such as eggs, fish, meat & poultry can be healthy if they are purchased from good sources, it can be very beneficial to limit your intake of these foods while detoxing. Avoid all milk & dairy products (yoghurt, ice-cream, cream, cheese, etc) as well as meat, chicken, eggs & fish while cleansing. Focus on eating fresh greens, fruits, vegetables, nuts & seeds.

4. Make your detox meals delicious!

Instead of forcing yourself to eat something that you hate, eat meals that your tastebuds will love. It’s actually really easy to make healthy food delicious, you just need to get used to a new way of eating. Studies have shown that when you enjoy your food, your body benefits from it more than when you eat food that you do not enjoy.

5. Eat well balanced meals.

Even when cleansing the body it’s still important to get all of the food groups into your diet. Eat healthy plant-based fats (avocado, nuts, seeds & cold-pressed oils), plant-based protein (nuts, seeds, spirulina, etc) and good carbs (vegetables, leafy greens & fruit) with every meal. Focus on eating nutrient packed & yummy smoothies, salads and vegetable dishes.

TAKE NOTE

While detoxing, remember that it’s important to exercise. The body gets rid of toxins through sweat. But you don’t have to spend all day exercising – 16 minutes is all that you need to work up a sweat! Join my 16 minute workout challenge!

Also remember that it’s very important to drink lots of water while cleansing. You should drink at least 8 glasses of water per day and even more if you are exercising on a normal day. While on a detox you should be drinking more than this each day, aim for 10-12 glasses or water per day so that your body can flush out any toxins. Drink only filtered or pure water.

I hope that this helps you in your pursuit of health & happiness!
